5 Fitness Travel Tips You Haven’t Heard Of
1. Geocaching
What is this you ask??? Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location. It’s a great way to explore a place, get to know the land, learn interesting facts all while getting a workout! A real-life video game! Here’s a link to learn more: https://www.geocaching.com/guide/
2. Online Private or Class Instruction
You can always access great pre-recorded content online, payed or for free, but you can ALSO get a LIVE personal Pilates session or mat class with The Nourished Body ( www.nourishedbodyonline.com ) so you never skip a beat! With a LIVE instructor your sessions are geared toward your specific needs (long term or that day). And….you are accountable! So, no pausing/breaking to avoid an exercise, get water, pee or just stopping because you are not into it (yeah….maybe I’ll just stretch during this one). Sessions can be by the pool or in your hotel room. No props or equipment required.
3. Grab your balls!
A great way to add stretch, release, relaxation and self-massage to your day. There is a plethora of balls out there that are excellent for travel. Small and lightweight, some even inflatable, can add a fun component to your regular routine. You can get them out in the car or plane and find instant relief for those long-distance destinations. There is even one to keep your brain in shape! HERE are a list of my favorites.
4. Find a Bike Share
In many cities across the globe there are now wonderful ways to access bikes without renting them for the day. You can “check” a bike out, ride to your destination, and drop it off when you are through. It is a fabulous way to get some added exercise, fresh air, commute in a more economical and environmentally friendly way and to see the cities in ways you wouldn’t have in a car. They even have one for kids now in France!!
5. Just Breathe
A more restorative and mindful practice of focused breathing for a short amount of time each day. Studies have shown that breathe work can lead to an abundance of health benefits. And even though you are not “moving” you are creating space and well-being for more clarity, better decision making, creativity, and brain function which then….facilitates happiness and energy all benefiting your actual movement regimen even more!
So, find a quiet space for even a couple of minutes to Breathe.
